At the heart of the
product is a file-access scanner that is always
running in the background in real-time,
intercepting every file that is opened, closed and
copied, any application that is launched, any file
that is downloaded from the internet or email
attachment that is extracted. If a threat is
discovered then access to the file is blocked and a
warning dialog is displayed on the desktop.
With the ability to scan any device or location directly from Finder, as well as automatic scanning of DVDs, CDs, USB devices and dmg files as they are mounted, checking for threats on your Mac has never been easier!

Performance and security
We've spent a long time making sure that ProtectMac AntiVirus is optimized so that you get the best performance from your system without compromising its security. The product is based on Adaptive Intelligent Scanning (AIS): it learns which applications and files are important to you, which ones you use often, and makes sure that these files are always safe and given priority access. Don't take our word for it, try it!Scanning for threats
There are many ways ProtectMac AntiVirus can scan for threats, some of these are performed automatically in the background whilst others are under your direct control.ProtectMac AntiVirus
ProtectMac AntiVirus is a security product for Mac OS X, designed to keep you safe from viruses and spyware. It uses many different techniques to detect malicious software, complimented by an updating system that automatically delivers and installs incremental updates in the background, to ensure that you stay on top of any security problem.
The ProtectMac
AntiVirus application allows you to scan any area
of your Mac or network, set up scheduled background
scans, customize your installation, manage any
threats that have been detected and displays a
history of all actions performed by the product.
Any file, folder or volume can be added to the view
so as to make scanning easier.
Types
of scans:
- Real-time file-access scans
- Scheduled Scans
- Automatic mounted volume scans
- User scans from the main application
- Finder Contextual Menu scans
Automatic Updating
Given the speed with which threats can spread these days over the internet it is important that you receive frequent updates to combat any new and malicious attack.ProtectMac AntiVirus checks for updates daily, downloading new threat identities and product updates automatically and installing them in the background without any user intervention or the need to restart your Mac.
As soon as a new threat identity is downloaded the Threat and Malware Scanner will start using it, so that any file accessed from then on will be scanned with the complete set of threat identities, including the new one.
You can schedule scans
of any area of your Mac or network to run in the
background, either at regular intervals or at
specific times, or even as soon as there has been a
virus identity update. Removable volumes, too, can
be automatically scanned as soon as they are
mounted; both features help ensure that no part of
your system or storage media can harbor hidden
threats.
Scanning from Finder
The easiest way to perform a user scan of a file, folder or volume is to simply right-click on it in and select 'Scan' from the contextual menu. A small semi-transparent window appears on the desktop displaying scanning progress.
Multiple, simultaneous
scans can be started via Finder in this way, with
each new scan being appended to the progress view
and removed automatically as the scan
completes.
